Whale's Song in Tonga, A Unique and Unforgettable Encounter

We are always eager to bring you the sweet experiences of the animal kingdom. So, today Wildboo thought of sharing a sweet experience of the ocean with you.

This is excerpted from an article by Yulia Moroz. Yulia Moroz, a journalist, traveler, and animal enthusiast, specializes in writing about marine life, specifically whales. She currently travels the world with a team of freedivers in search of these marine giants.

According to Yulia, the team's experience swimming with whales in the Kingdom of Tonga is truly unique. It is one of the few places where individuals can have face-to-face encounters with 15-meter humpback whales, who remain in close proximity and interact with the team. These whales are known to circle, look, wave their fins, hit tails, and even poke their noses at the team while they swim. The songs of these whales can even be heard from the beach.

Tonga's waters are an ideal pitstop for humpback whales during their migration to the Antarctic due to the safety and peacefulness of the area. The shallow waters surrounding the islands provide a safe haven for the whales to breed and raise their newborns without the threat of predators such as killer whales. Newborn humpback whales, measuring around 4.5 meters in length, spend the first two months of their lives in Tonga's waters, gaining strength and weight before embarking on their journey across the ocean.

Whales, despite their large size, are skilled swimmers and are not known to be aggressive toward humans. They may swim close to you or even wave their large fins in front of you, but they are aware of their strength and take care to not harm humans. This creates an incredible and unforgettable experience for those who have the opportunity to observe them.
